Sergeyevka-1: Neolithic Site in the Khanka Plain, and the Typology of Middle Neolithic
Sites in Primorye
S.V. Batarshev and A.N. Popov.
Recent archaeological studies in Primorye (Maritime Territory) have lead to the discovery of a number of sites
attributed to the Middle Neolithic Rudnaya culture (7.5 – 6.0 ka BP). Based on fi nds from Sergeyevka-1, the authors
periodize the Rudnaya culture. The early Rudnaya stage dates to 7.5 – 7.0 ka BP and the late Sergeyevka stage to
7 – 6 ka BP; both are named after eponymous sites: Rudnaya Pristan in eastern Primorye, and Sergeyevka-1 in western
Primorye. Differences in stages are refl ected in ceramics and to a lesser extent, stone tools; dwelling types are common
to both the early and late stages.
